Local HealthWatch delayed until April 2013

Local Healthwatch will replace LINKs and be the local consumer champion for patients, service users and the public. The changeover was originally planned for Ocotber 2012 but has been delayed.

The new date for establishing Local Healthwatch in April 2013 will support the need to align this closer to the establishment of other new bodies such as the health and well being boards.

Significant improvements needed to care for people with dementia in hospital

The first full report of the National Audit of Dementia has identified a need for significant improvements in hospital ward environments, staff training and the overall approach to care delivery for patients with dementia. The Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership is led by a consortium of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, the Royal College of Nursing and National Voices.

NHS London agrees next step on merger process

The Board of NHS London has approved the full business case for the merger of Barts and the London NHS Trust, Newham University Hospital NHS Trust and Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust. The decision follows agreement to proceed with a merger by each of the three Trust Boards, as well as confirmation of support from both Inner North East London and Outer North East London clusters last week.

Patients in London can access new information about their GP, including screening rates and patient satisfaction for the first time, as London launches the www.myhealth.london.nhs.uk website.

The Department of Health has worked with primary care organisations including the Royal College of General Practitioners to bring together clinical service and outcome data on each GP practice in England.

NHS Reforms one step closer

The Health and Social Care Bill, which sets out the Coalition's reforms of the NHS, is one step closer to becoming law after MPs backed the reforms in a key vote on September 7th.

The Bill had its third reading will now be considered by the House of Lords. A total of 316 MPs voted in favour of the Health Bill yesterday, while 251 voted against the changes.

The Bill is about halfway through its parliamentary journey and will move to the Lords where it will be further debated and amendments tabled.
